I, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, Edo South Senatorial District, am apprised of recent social media rumors that I have resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and joined another political party. The rumors have spiked to levels that gave colleagues, supporters, friends and associates reasons to want answers which have necessitated this formal statement.
To be clear, I have not resigned my membership of the PDP, nor have I moved to another political party. I am still a bona fide member of the PDP and have never contemplated leaving the PDP family which I have been a member of for more than a decade. If ever and whenever leaving the PDP becomes a consideration for me, I shall consult widely and officially inform the leadership of the party and then make a formal statement of intent.
My rumored crosscarpeting may have been rife because some people who are close to me have, as they have a right within the constitution to do, gone ahead to change political leaning. Their decision on their political journey going forward was made entirely by them and should not be suggestive of my plans for the now and the immediate future regarding my political allegiance. While I wish them the best as they journey on, I here reiterate my continued membership of the PDP despite the issues which arose in my state a little while ago and which I believe time will heal and we will get over soon enough.
For the avoidance of doubt, I, Senator Matthew Urhoghide remain a PDP member with the same rights as all members of the party and committed more than before to delivering good representation to the good people of Edo South Senatorial District whom I represent at the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senator (Pharm.) Matthew A. Urhoghide (FPSN, FNAPharm.)
Chairman, Senate Public Accounts Committee
